Looking for an easy way to perfectly prepare corn? This Instant Pot Corn on the Cob tutorial is it!
I'm always looking for fast and simple ways to cook the tried and true dishes my kids love, and that's precisely what this Instant Pot Corn on the Cob recipe provides. One of the biggest reasons I love Instant Pot cooking is because it's a set-it-and-forget-it method of cooking. Typically if I'm cooking corn, it also means I'm cooking a few other dishes as well (like Colombian Steak or Ranch Chicken Bites). And in those moments, it's important to have a technique that consistently yields perfectly cooked corn without requiring a lot of hands-on attention.
Corn cooked in the Instant Pot results in perfectly seasoned, plump, and flavorful corn every time.
It's no wonder I turn to the Instant Pot to make corn, because it's also my favorite method of making Popcorn, too.
So let's get to making it! You can jump around the article using the menu below, or you can just head right to the bottom for the complete recipe.

Ingredients Needed and Substitutions
Here is a brief overview of the ingredients and substitutions possible for this recipe. The recipe card lists the full recipe with quantities below the article.
- corn on the cob (I've only tested this recipe with fresh corn, though my best guess is that frozen corn on the cob would work too, though likely needing an extra few minutes of pressure cooking)
- water (The instant pot needs liquid to function, and water is the easiest liquid to use in this, but I've also had success with using ½ water and ½ milk for some additional flavoring)
- butter (this is optional, but adds flavor)
- salt (also optional, but really what is corn without salt too?)
Some Notes on Making the Recipe
The recipe is super simple to prepare, and other than the actual Instant Pot, no gadgets or accessories are needed to prepare the corn. I tested this recipe by placing the corn on a trivet, and up out of the liquid, but I much prefer the taste of the corn when cooked straight in the bottom of the liner. It's more flavorful!
To make the dish, simply add all the ingredients to the pot and cook for 4 minutes on high pressure.
And while the recipe doesn't have an official use for the leftover liquid, you certainly can save it and use it in a soup...I'm thinking corn chowder would be perfect!

Do you think I could wrap individual cobs in foil then cook in instapot
Kelli Avila
I actually don't have much experience with cooking aluminum foil in the instant pot, so I can't advise on this! It might be worth a quick google search to see if it's ok.

At 4 minutes the corn was crunchy. Next time, I'll give it 6 minutes minimum and re evaluate.
