    Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal
A bowl of prepared cinnamon raisin oatmeal.

Old-fashioned oats are cooked with maple syrup, raisins, cinnamon, and a splash of cream to make a hearty, warm, and filling breakfast. This Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal can be made in well under 10 minutes and even made ahead of time for a quick homemade start to your day.

This wholesome Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal is made with hearty old-fashioned oats, sweetened with maple syrup and infused with warm cinnamon and juicy raisins. Think making oatmeal in the middle of a busy morning takes too much work? Hardly! It's a 10-minute (at most) task that will satisfy the whole family.

What's even better is that it reheats perfectly, making it ideal for meal prep at the beginning of the week.

It's especially good on cold winter mornings, as it really warms the body up from the inside out. Depending on the season, this cinnamon oatmeal is almost always in rotation, along with this Apple Oatmeal, Maple Blueberry Oatmeal and Strawberry Oatmeal recipes.

So let's get to making it! The text below offers some tips for making it, or you can scroll down to the bottom for the complete recipe.

    Ingredients and Substitutions

Here is a brief overview of the ingredients needed for this recipe. The recipe card lists the full recipe with quantities below this text. If tested substitutions are available for this recipe, they'll be listed here.

    • old-fashioned / rolled oats (you can use quick oats if you want, but the texture will be slightly different and you won't need to cook the oats for as long)
    • maple syrup (this is optional and can be omitted and can be replaced with any number of sweeteners like honey or brown sugar)
    • coarse kosher salt (This recipe was tested using Diamond Crystal coarse kosher salt. If you use Morton's kosher salt or fine salt, decrease the volume by half)
    • raisins
    • ground cinnamon
    • heavy cream (this is optional, and can be replaced with milk or half and half, if desired)

    Kelli's Best Tips

Oatmeal made on the stove is a staple in our home because it's really fast, nutritious, and reheats well. In the colder months, I'll make it one to two times a week and reheat leftovers for the next few days.

There really isn't much you need to know to make it except two things I want to point out in the directions below.

    • The recipe calls for cooking the raisins in water prior to adding the oats, to plump them up. Skipping this step is not recommended.
    • Don't rush things! Monitor the temperature while cooking the oats. The recipe suggests lowering the heat to medium-low to avoid burning the oats on the bottom and to ensure that they cook slowly for a creamy texture.
    • And finally, don't walk away from the oats for too long when you are cooking them. You'll need to stir them a few times while they're cooking. They truly only take a couple of minutes.

    Storing and Reheating Oatmeal

Leftover oatmeal can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Before covering it, make sure the oatmeal has cooled to room temperature (this is a universal tip for all leftovers, by the way).

To reheat it, place it in a medium pot and add in a splash of milk or water. Reheat on medium-low until the oats are warmed through and creamy. Or use the microwave for super fast breakfast!

    Description

This 10-minute Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal is a quick and easy breakfast made with old-fashioned oats, maple syrup, raisins, cinnamon, and cream.

    Ingredients

    Units Scale
    • 3-½ cups water
    • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
    • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
    • 1 cup raisins
    • 2 cups old fashioned / rolled oats
    • ½ teaspoon cinnamon, plus more for topping
    • 2 tablespoons heavy cream, optional

    Instructions

    1. Add water, maple syrup, salt and raisins to a medium pot. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
    2. Once boiling, lower the heat to medium-low and add in the oats and cinnamon.
    3. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the oats have thickened up and are tender, about 3-5 minutes.
    4. Shut off the heat and stir in the cream, if desired.
    5. Divide oatmeal into dishes, adding additional cinnamon and cream on top if desired.

    Notes

You can use quick oats if you want, but the texture will be slightly different and you won't need to cook the oats for as long.
