Whenever I need some veggies for a meal, I almost always turn to green beans (see: Balsamic Roasted Green Beans). They're quick to make, mild in flavor for picky eaters, and become exciting when you add the right ingredients to them.

This Parmesan Green Bean recipe makes use of the air fryer to turn this humble veggie into a unique side dish. The green beans are mixed together with a touch of vinegar (or lemon juice), a little garlic, salt pepper and parmesan cheese. While the green beans cook, some of the parmesan sticks to the green beans, and some of it falls off and gets crispy. It makes for a great texture when paired with the crisp-tender green beans and of course, a good flavor too! Pair this with Smoky Air Fryer Chicken Thighs or Juicy Air Fryer Chicken Breast for a complete meal!

    Ingredients and Substitutions

Here is a brief overview of the ingredients needed for this recipe. The recipe card lists the full recipe with quantities (below this article).

    Fresh raw green beans prepped.
    • fresh green beans (I typically love French green beans, but won't use them for this recipe as they are too thin and will overcook)
    • avocado oil (or other high-heat oil)
    • grated parmesan cheese (use the highest quality you can here, as low-quality parmesan cheese doesn't do well with cooking)
    • white wine vinegar (or fresh squeezed lemon juice)
    • garlic powder + fresh ground black pepper + coarse kosher salt
    • lemon wedges (for serving)

Step 1: Toss all the ingredients into a bowl.

Step 2: Layer the green bean mixture in one layer in the air fryer basket.

Step 3: Cook for 6 minutes, then toss and cook for an additional 4 to 6 minutes.

Air fried green beans with some parmesan on the air fryer basket.

Step 4: Cook until crisp-tender. Do not overcook.

    Don't Forget the Crispies

A lot of the parmesan cheese will fall off the green beans and fry up on the bottom of the air fryer basket--don't leave it behind. Scrape it up and sprinkle those crispy bits on top of the cooked green beans.

This dish should be served immediately! Serve with a wedge of lemon, and don't forget to check the green beans to see if they need additional salt and pepper. These air fryer green beans won't keep well, so just make enough for your family to eat in one meal.

    Description

Elevate any meal with this unique and simple Air Fryer Parmesan Green Beans side dish recipe. Ready in just 12 minutes, this side dish offers a crunchy cheesy twist to traditional green beans.

    Ingredients

    Units Scale
    • 1lb. green beans, cleaned and trimmed
    • 1 tablespoon avocado oil (or other high-heat oil)
    • ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese (high-quality is best!)
    • 2 teaspoons white wine vinegar or lemon
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • Big pinch of coarse kosher salt
    • Big pinch of fresh black pepper
    • Avocado oil spray (or similar air-fryer-safe oil for coating the basket)
    • Lemon wedges, for serving

    Instructions

    1. Preheat the air fryer to 400ºF (if your air fryer requires it).
    2. In a medium bowl, mix together green beans, oil, parmesan cheese, vinegar, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
    3. Lightly coat the air fryer basket with oil (I use a non-aerosol avocado oil spray), then place the green beans on it in one even layer. Scrape out any cheese from the bowl and place on top of the green beans.
    4. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, tossing the green beans halfway through, until the cheese is crispy and the green beans are tender.
    5. Transfer the green beans to a serving plate. Use a spatula to scrape up any parmesan cheese crispies and sprinkle over the top of the green beans.
    6. Serve immediately with lemon and additional salt and pepper if needed.
